This paper reviews economic California wine within the recently deceased Robert Mondavi wine giant, which largely put California on the international map wine. If you intend to become a wine professionals should take into account the Robert Mondavi Institute (RMI) for Wine and Food Science at the University of California, Davis. We're too old for that kind of thing, but not too old to enjoy their wine, at least in this price range. One day, we sample an example of its $ 100 Cabernet Sauvignon, but not reporting about it in this column. For now, let's see how the wine company for $ 10. Incidentally, you may be able to find this wine in the United States for less than $ 10.

Reviewed wine Robert Mondavi Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon, California 2007 13.5% alcohol about $ 10

Let's start with a quote from the marketing materials. Tasting notes: intense garnet red, wild red berries and cassis aroma, taste of fresh fruit, balanced wine, soft tannins, good quality, easy to drink. Serving Suggestion: Serve with grilled meats. And now for my reactions.

The first meal consisted of braised beef ribs and potatoes with sweet red pepper slices. First I had a couple drinks to get me started. The wine was round and tannins. I tried black fruit, especially black cherries. This cab was fairly long which shows a good balance of acidity. In the presence of beef and the wine is made even more rounded. He wrapped potatoes. The red pepper served wine more acid, but not unpleasant. Some Harissa (hot pepper sauce Turkish) intensified the flavors Cabernet Sauvignon: dark is darker and I do not mean to negative.

As you know, I like to taste the wine and food pairing unusual combination. I had every intention of trying this wine with a chicken dish. And in this case, had permission from headquarters. The new tag begins with the phrase: "Our Cabernet Sauvignon Dark spicy fruit character, with a velvety smooth finish and is delicious with grilled meats or roasts – even chicken! "I tried this wine with chicken in soy sauce and onions accompanied by eggplant drizzled with roasted garlic potatoes and French in the garlic and rosemary. The wine was tannic. I tried oak. The black cherry and plum flavors were powerful and yet not destroy the chicken. This was really delicious chewable liquid. The blue eggplant (do not complain) gave a more acidic wine, but the combination worked well. But let's be fair, the wine and the chicken did not mesh.

My final food involved linking stew beef, carrots and potatoes. There was a great balance of acidity, fruit and tannins. I have some oak, with black fruit, black cherries and plums all. The wine was nice and long, meaty and chewy.

I finished the bottle with two cheeses. In the presence of a walnut, Cabernet Sauvignon mild Provolone retained most of its features but do not combine with cheese. A marble cheddar, yellow and flattened orange wine.

The final verdict. This Cabernet Sauvignon is certainly a winner with plenty of beef dishes. I would buy again and again. And I would like make a vertical tasting, comparing Mondavi line booths.
